Terms
  1. It is a type of security for the auto insurance that pays for the insured against any damages resulting in the loss of property, destruction, or the damage of another’s property by the auto accident caused during the term of the ownership, use and, the management of the vehicle.
  2. It is an accident in which a vehicle is stolen and is not recovered within 30 days from when it was reported to the police, resulting in the handling of the auto insurance. (This handling is available only if you subscribe to an auto insurance to cover for your own vehicle’s damage.)
  3. This is an accident in which the amount of the insurance coverage to be paid has not yet been determined because the handling of the accident is not completed after the insurance company has begun the handling of the auto accident.
  4. It is an amount paid by the insurance company with the exclusion of the deductible and the error compensation in the case of an insurance accident occurring in an automotive insurance.
  5. If a vehicle is damaged due to an auto accident, it is the direct cost of repairing the car such as components, labor, and painting, with the exclusion of any indirect damages such as auto transportation cost and rental fee and any error compensation, among others.

Introduction to KIDI

  • The Korea Insurance Development Institute is a not-for-profit membership corporation established to protect the interests
    of policyholders, and contribute towards the development of the insurance industry.

    Since its foundation in 1983, where it began in the field of non-life insurance ratemaking area, KIDI has continued to expand
    its business field. By 1989, KIDI broadened its scope to include not only non-life insurance, but also life insurance as well.
    In 1992, the Korea Automobile Insurance Repair Research Training Center (KART) was established as a subsidiary, and in 1995,
    the Korea Insurance Research Institute (KIRI) was founded as a subsidiary. KIRI later became a separate entity in 2010.

    As of February 2017, KIDI has twenty-five life insurance member companies, and seventeen non-life insurance member
    companies (forty-two in total).

    In terms of organizational structure, KIDI consists of five divisions and a subsidiary automobile research center (KART).
    In total, over 200 of the finest experts are working passionately with KIDI to further develop the Korean insurance industry.

What is CarHistory ?

Background of CarHistory

  • After Korea was bailed out by the IMF in 1998, the used car transactions increased by more than 20% in comparison to the number of the new car sales. As the used car market became far much more active, the damage to the used car consumers also steeply increased as the accident vehicles were concealed as the non-accident vehicles for the sales transactions.
    In this background, the consumer protection organizations, such as the Korea Consumer Agency and the Korea Consumers Union, and civic organizations requested the disclosure of the information on the auto insurance accidents under the possession of the Korea Insurance Development Institute for the increased transparency in the distribution of the used car market and the protection of the consumers. The Korea Insurance Development Institute has been providing the CarHistory service since April 2003 in cooperation with the relevant authorities and related organizations.

Unless there is a special problem with the business or technology of the Korea Insurance Development Institute, the service in principle is provided for 24 hours a day throughout the year.
However, the service may be interrupted for the times during which the Korea Insurance Development Institute must check and repair the service, such as for the regular inspection or emergency repair.
The Korea Insurance Development Institute may divide the service into a certain range and set the time available for each range separately, in which event the details will be announced in advance.
The used car accident history information service is provided based on the auto insurance repair payment records (since 1996) of the 12 non-life insurance companies handling the auto insurance.
